Talk Abstract
Robotic surgery for esophageal and gastric cancer is becoming increasingly popular worldwide. In Japan, both procedures are covered by health insurance, and additionally, robotic surgery for gastric cancer has acquired additional reimbursement for the use of robots. The benefits of minimally invasive surgery over thoracotomy or laparotomy have gradually been demonstrated, but the evidence supporting the benefits of robotic surgery over thoracoscopic or laparoscopic surgery remains unclear. Given that the theme of this presentation is "Robotic surgery for Esophagogastric Cancer: What is the Evidence", I will discuss the current status of robotic surgery for esophageal and gastric cancer, including my personal views.
