Talk Abstract

Epidemiologic evidence over the past 40 years supports the importance of diet in colorectal cancer development. However, the relationship of most individual dietary factors with colorectal cancer risk remains inconclusive. The optimal diet for colorectal cancer prevention remains to be identified. Over the past few years, growing data indicate the role of the gut microbiome in colorectal cancer. Gut microbiome may also modify the health effect of diet. Integrating diet and gut microbiome may improve our biological understanding about their interplay and inform precision nutrition strategies for colorectal cancer prevention. In this talk, I will present our group’s work on the integrated assessment of diet and gut microbiome in relation to colorectal cancer, using both observational and interventional study designs. I will summarize the research advances and highlight the future directions in the field.
