Biosketch
Dr Inian Samarasam currently heads the Department of Surgery and the Upper GI Surgical unit at the Christian Medical College Hospital (CMCH) , Vellore, India. He holds the academic post of Senior Professor, in the Department of Surgery.
He completed his postgraduate surgical training ( MS General Surgery) in the year 1993. Subsequent to this, he did his sub-speciality training in Upper GI Surgery in Australia. He is a current Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is a member of various surgical societies in India - the Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology (IASG) , Association of Surgeons in India (ASI), Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI) and has held organisational posts in these associations. He is the surgical examiner for various universities in India including the National Board of Exams and also examines for the IMRCS exam of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Has been principal investigator for clinical research projects funded by the ICMR ( Indian council of Medical research)
His areas of interest include benign and malignant foregut surgery, Minimally invasive / Robotic surgery of the Upper GI tract, and management of corrosive injuries of the upper GI tract. He has authored 85 publications in various peer reviewed journals and has participated as invited faculty in about 50 surgical conferences, both in India and overseas.
