Associate Professor Cuong Duong (MB BS, PhD, FRACS) is an Upper GI surgeon working at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia. He is the Chair of Training Board for upper GI surgeons in Australia and New Zealand.

A/Prof Duong is interested in surgical innovations and is the Australian pioneer in laparoscopic vagal-sparing total gastrectomy for familial gastric cancer with CDH1 gene mutation, and robotic assisted resection of oesophagogastric malignancies.

He is actively involved in both clinical and laboratory-based research projects. Major research contributions included gene expression profiling for the prediction of tumour response, the development of targeted therapy (APR-246) and the use of circulating tumour DNA (liquid biopsy) in the management of oesophageal cancer, and the utility of FDG-PET in oesophageal and gastric cancers.

His current research interests include fluorescence-guided surgery for oesophageal and gastric cancers, and the use of neural engineering to improve delayed gastric emptying for post oesophagectomy patients.
