Biosketch

Dr. Hyuk Joon Lee, professor of Department of Surgery, is a surgeon who specializes in the surgical management of gastric cancer, which is one of the most common cancers in Korea. He performed about 200-300 gastric cancer cases annually and more than half of them were laparoscopic or robotic gastrectomy. Dr. Lee serves as PI of Korean multicenter phase III randomized controlled trial (RCT) comparing laparoscopic pyloric preserving gastrectomy versus laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (KLASS-04) and also served as sub-PI of multicenter RCT comparing laparoscopic versus open gastric cancer surgery in early and advanced gastric cancers (KLASS-01 and KLASS-02). He is also performing research and clinical practice of bariatric and metabolic surgery. Dr. Lee performs several translational researches to discover novel tissue and serum biomarkers for gastric cancer and to understand the mechanisms of gastric cancinogenesis. Since 2002, he published about 280 SCI papers including Gastroenterology, Annals of Surgery, and Journal of Clinical Oncology.
